Amboseli, Kenya · Maasai-guided safaris
Fully managed elephant and super tusker safaris led by David Moipei, a Maasai guide born and raised beside the park, trusted by some of the world's leading wildlife photographers.
Your guide
David is a Maasai wildlife guide who was born and raised in Amboseli and still lives in a nomadic village a short drive from the park. He grew up alongside the elephants he now guides people to see, and he has spent his life learning how they move, feed, rest and react.
That knowledge is what sets a day with David apart. He reads the landscape and the animals, anticipates where the herds will be, and puts you in exactly the right place at exactly the right time. Renowned wildlife photographers, including Paul Nicklen, have relied on him in the field.
David supports his community's traditional way of life while adapting to a changing world. Every safari booked with him directly supports his family, his village and the trackers who protect Amboseli's wildlife.
The safari
David runs complete safaris, not just game drives. From the moment you land to the moment you leave, every detail is managed so you can focus on the wildlife.
Collected from Nairobi in a Toyota minivan, or met at Amboseli Airport, and driven back at the end. No transfers to arrange, no waiting around.
Game drives are in David's Toyota Land Cruiser. It seats up to 6 guests, with 3 to 4 recommended so everyone gets a window and room for cameras.
David books your lodge or camp in or around the park, matched to your preferences and the plan for each day.
Park permits, conservancy access and fees are all arranged by David, including access to areas most visitors never reach.
David's team tracks wildlife movement across the park from morning to evening. Each day's route adapts to where the animals and the weather actually are.
Light, background, angle and timing. David positions you for the shot, whether you shoot with a phone or a 600mm lens.
The same team that guides you protects the super tuskers from poaching every day. Your visit funds that work directly.
Super tuskers
Amboseli is home to the last great super tuskers, bull elephants carrying tusks that reach the ground. Fewer than a few dozen remain in Africa, and many of them live here.
David and a network of Maasai trackers watch over these elephants from dawn to dusk, every day of the year. Years of calm, respectful presence have built a trust between the animals and the people who protect them.
That trust is what you step into. With David, encounters are unhurried, ethical and remarkably close. He knows each bull's temperament, understands elephant behaviour as few people do, and keeps both you and the animals safe while you watch.

For photographers
David plans each day around the light: golden mornings with Kilimanjaro behind the herds, dust and backlight in the late afternoon.
He anticipates where an elephant will walk, not just where it is, and places the vehicle so the background, the angle and the moment line up.
No rushing between sightings. If the shot needs an hour of waiting, you wait, and David will tell you when it is about to happen.
David has guided some of the world's most celebrated wildlife photographers, including Paul Nicklen, whose work from Amboseli features David alongside the super tusker Craig.
Itineraries
Every safari is built around you. These are starting points. Three days is the minimum David recommends to give the elephants, and the light, a real chance. Groups of 3 to 4 work best, and the vehicle seats up to 6.
1 day
Early pickup, a full day in the park with David, and return the same evening. Best if you are already nearby or short on time.
3 days Recommended
Two nights in or beside the park. Mornings and afternoons with the herds, time to find the big bulls, and a chance to visit David's village.
5 to 7+ days
For serious photography or a deeper immersion. Multiple areas of the ecosystem, every kind of light, and the patience to wait for the shot.
Rates depend on the season, the length of your safari, your group size and the accommodation you choose. Message David on WhatsApp and he will send you a PDF with current pricing and a plan built for your dates.

Community
David's village sits just beyond the park, where Maasai families have herded cattle alongside elephants for generations. Life here is nomadic and communal, rooted in tradition and adapting to a changing world.
Guests are welcome to visit, meet David's family and neighbours, and see for themselves how a community that shares its land with wildlife has chosen to protect it.
